How to Speak Well

I don't know about you but I've read many articles discussing how the pandemic has made us (push us to become) better listeners. We've had to engage more to really hear what someone's saying, probe and check-in on each other. But over the last couple weeks, I've been wondering if the usage of Zoom also has pushed us to become better at speaking.

Just your average Integral meeting.

Hannah wrote in this article that "The act of having to think about how to communicate a message meant a more deliberate approach to communication in general." Considering what channel to use resulted in more targeted communication. Expanding into the territory of video conference meant we had to consider what and how we said what needed to be heard. In general, I think we had to become more accurate and to-the-point in the risk of losing connection, suffering from background noise or just having to have yet another video conference.

Even though it's one of the oldest innovations, speaking isn't always easy. During this period I've taken note, and been impressed, of the ones that do this well, who present with confidence and clarity, and been reminded of the preparation and practise that goes into presenting, running a workshop or even just using their assigned 5 minutes in weekly meetings.
